Michael P. Welcome

Michael P. Welcome, 59, Clarks Summit, died Wednesday afternoon at his home.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Claude L. and Josephine LaTray Welcome, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of Clarks Summit. He was a 1971 graduate of Abington Heights and furthered his education at Luzerne County Community College. After school he worked for Community Medical Center where he was a member of their softball team. Prior to his recent retirement, he worked for the Abington Heights School District.

In his younger years, Mike was an avid powerlifter and he loved the sport of boxing. He was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Dallas Cowboys and Muhammad Ali. He was a proud supporter of all Abington Heights athletics and was active at the annual Abington Heights powerlifting events.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and he always lit up the room at every family gathering. Mike had the ability to put a smile on anyone's face through his jokes and laughter.

Surviving are a brother, Claude L. Welcome Jr., and his wife Karen, Clarks Summit; a sister Bonnie Pentasuglio, So. Abington Twp.; two nieces, Amy Devine and her husband Ryan, Clarks Summit and Kerri Gaughan and husband Pat, Clarks Summit; a nephew, Scott Pentasuglio and his wife Marcy, So. Abington Twp.; grandnieces, Marni Pentasuglio and Quinn Gaughan; grandnephews, Hunter, Brock and Tate Pentasuglio; several cousins.

He was preceded in death by a nephew, Mark Pentasuglio; and a brother in law, Martin Pentasuglio.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 10 am from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home & Cremation Svc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA.

Friends may call from 9 am to 10 am prior to the service at the funeral home.
