Michael A. Nardella, 89, of Clarks Summit died Sunday morning at Commonwealth Hospice of N E PA. His wife is Jane Courtright Nardella. The couple had been married for 65 years.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Anthony and Nicholena Picchione Nardella. Prior to retirement he was a pressman for Eureka Printing in Scranton, and later worked for Gould Battery.
He was a proud Army veteran who served during WW II and the Korean Conflict. He received the Bronze Star, ETI Ribbon with 4 battle stars and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, WW II and Korea Service Medal with 2 Battle Stars, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 Battle Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, WW II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal for his bravery and patriotic service to his country. He was a member of Abington Memorial VFW Post #7069.
He was a member of the Church of the Epiphany, Glenburn and previously St. Luke's Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry and as an usher.
Also surviving are two sons, Mark and his wife Marianne, Moscow, and Anthony and his wife Kimberly, New Providence; a daughter, Gail Prye and her husband Robert, Clarks Summit, 5 grandchildren, Kyle and Kirby Nardella, David Prye, and Michael and Erin Nardella; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister Mary James.
The family would like to express thanks to the nurses and aides at the Gino Merli Veterans' Center and Commonwealth Hospice of N E PA for their kindness and compassion.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday at 11 am at the Church of the Epiphany, 1003 Church Hill Rd , Glenburn, with services by Fr. Graham Cliff. Interment will follow in Milwaukee Cemetery.
Friends may call on Saturday from 10 am until 10:45 at the church. Abington Memorial VFW Post #7069 will perform military honors immediately prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gino Merli Veterans' Center, 401 Penn Ave., Scranton, PA 18503.
