Michael P. Dougherty

Michael P. "Sonner" Dougherty, of South Abington Twp., died Friday at home.

Born April 1, 1960, in Scranton, he was the son of Joseph A. Dougherty, South Abington Twp., and the late Ann M. Morgan Dougherty. He was a 1978 graduate of Abington Heights High School and a 1982 graduate of Villanova University, where he received a bachelor's degree in biology. He resided in New Jersey for a number of years and had recently returned to the area. While living in New Jersey, he was a production supervisor for Ocean Spray in Bordentown, N.J. Before that, he had been employed by Crystal Club Soda Co.

He was a member of the Audubon Society and Our Lady of the Snows Church. Sonner enjoyed traveling, bird watching, college basketball, especially Villanova, and college football. He had a great love of music and golf.

He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was one of the most generous people to walk the face of the earth, as he would literally give you the shirt off of his back.

Surviving are two daughters, Jamie, Scranton: and Jennifer, Dunmore: three grandchildren, Tyler, Dominic and Alexandra; three brothers, Mark T. and wife, Jeannie; Gerard and wife, Renee; and Paul, all of South Abington Twp.; a sister, Sharon Duffy, Clarks Summit; uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph.

The funeral will be Tuesday from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church, South State Street, Clarks Summit. Interment will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly.
