Matthew David Mackie Jr

Matthew David Mackie, Jr., 81, of Clarks Summit, died Friday afternoon at Geisenger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Dorothy DeWitt.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of attorney Matthew D. Mackie and Evalyn (Hendrickson) Axelrod. He graduated from Clarks Summit High School, Class of 1949, and went on to receive his bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a trust officer for Northeastern Bank, now PNC Bank. Matt was involved with many local charities. He was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Scranton.

Matt enjoyed fishing and golfing. As a youth, he received his private pilot's license and had a great love of flying.

Also surviving are a son; Matthew D. Mackie, III, Nicholson; a sister-in-law, Alyce Thomas, Lewes, Delaware; and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service by Rev. Scott Loomer will be held Tuesday, June 11, 11:00AM at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 550 Madison Ave, Scranton. Friends may begin visiting at 10AM. Reception to follow. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly.
