Mary Virginia Copley, 67, of Hilton Head Island, SC, formerly of Waverly, died Wednesday evening, January 17th, 2018. Her husband is Charles Jasper Copley III. The couple had been married for almost 50 years.
Born in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late John Leonard and Sarah Ann Fisher Drummy. She attended the University of Miami, Florida as a music major, and was an accomplished musician and composer. More importantly to her, UM was where she met her husband. Later in life, she enjoyed playing her piano with family gathered around. Passionate about those less fortunate, she was an avid volunteer at the St. Francis Soup Kitchen in Scranton, founded an assisted living facility in New York, and made many other contributions to those in need.
She was CFO of multiple businesses and of her family. Founding businesses in the apparel industry, Mary and Chuck made an entrepreneurial team. Nothing brought Mary more happiness than to have her entire family together, and they were fortunate to be together often over the past few years. When they were not together, she utilized technology to track her "babies" throughout the world. Mary succumbed to Melanoma, with her family gathered around her bedside.
Also surviving is a daughter Mary Virginia O'Brien (Ginny) and her husband Joseph, Clarks Green; a son Charles Jasper Copley IV (C.J.) and his wife Loryn, Clarks Summit; a son John Arthur Copley (Jack) and his wife Cindy, Clarks Green; and a son Joseph William Copley (Joey) and his partner Carlos, San Francisco.
A devoted grandmother, she is also survived by three granddaughters, Mary Virginia O'Brien, Katherine Weyant O'Brien, and Sarah Ann O'Brien.
A loving sister, her siblings Tommy Drummy, Brian Drummy, Larry Drummy, and Sarah Ann Verlinden are grieving her loss.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Gloria Ann, Mary Ann, and John Leonard.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 20th at 11 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit,
300 School St., Clarks Summit, PA
. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in Clarks Green Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
