Mary Theresa Basalyga, 94, of Fleetville, died Wednesday morning at the Jewish Home in Scranton. She was the wife of the late Peter Basalyga, who died in 1992.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Mary was the daughter of the late Stanley and Felixa Tamowski Marhefka. A true "Rosie the Riveter," Mary was employed by Glen L. Martin Aircraft as a riveter in Baltimore during World War II. Before retirement, she was a nurse at Clarks Summit State Hospital and owner of the Abington Fabrics Store in Clarks Summit.
Surviving are a son, Joseph Basalyga and his wife, Shirley, Fallsington; a daughter, Stephanie Edwards, Fleetville; grandchildren, Steven Basalyga Sr. and his wife, Theresa; Sheri Flinn and her husband, Brian; John Edwards Jr. and his wife, Dana; Christopher Edwards and his wife, Casey; Keith Edwards and Michael Edwards; great-grandchildren, Steven Jr. and Andrew Basalyga, Austin and Shayne Flinn; Holden, Carter and Alana, Benjamin, Addison and Evan Edwards; a sister, Theresa McGlumphy, South Carolina; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, James, Anthony and Walter Marhefka; and five sisters, Laura Dziwulski, Genevieve Marshall, Thelma Kutrick, Sophie Bruns and Veronica Westervelt.
A private blessing service by the Rev. Arbogaste Satoun will be held with interment following in Abington Hills Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
