Mark Patrick Melvin, Clarks Summit, Pa., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 25, 2014.

Born in Scranton, Mark was the son of Thomas R. Melvin and the late Anne Tolan Melvin.

Mark was a graduate of Central High School and the University of Scranton.Mark worked at DeFazio Express as office manager until its closing. He then began working in the insurance industry with Chamberlin Insurance, including Head of Pa. Risk Management. He had several certifications, some of which were CPCU, AIC, ARC and AIAF.

Mark was a very intelligent, ethical, caring, compassionate person. He always put the needs of others before his own. He loved his family and loved to laugh. He was a loving father who happily involved himself in every detail of his son's life. Mark was a wonderful man who was held in high esteem by his family. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

Also surviving are his cherished son, Mark Taylor Melvin, Seely Lake, Montana; his beloved girlfriend, Maria Sturdevant, Dunmore, Pa.; a brother, Thomas Timothy Melvin and wife, Pam, Virginia; his sister, Diane Cherundolo and husband, David and nieces, Anne and Sarah Cherundolo of Old Forge, Pa.; and Kate Cherundolo Vallerie and husband, Paul, Villanova, Pa.; his sister, Sharon Deininger and husband, Jerry, Waverly, Pa.; his sister, Marjorie Adcroft and husband, Joe, Clarks Summit, Pa.

At Mark's request, private funeral arrangements were conducted at the convenience of the family by Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, Clarks Summit. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Jeff Tudgay at Our Lady of the Snows Church, Clarks Summit.

Altar servers were Jim and Rickie Kalp. Pallbearers were Mark's cousins, Thomas Tolan, Timothy Tolan, Terry Tolan, Teddy Tolan, Todd Tolan and Vince Arcieri. Entombment, Cathedral Cemetery.

Family requests that in lieu of any offerings, flowers or the like donations be made in Mark's memory to the ACLU Foundation of Pennsylvania, P.O. Box 40008, Philadelphia, PA 19106, aclupa.org; or to the donor's favorite charity.
