Mark Wayne Keene, 55, of Dalton, died Saturday at home of a cardiac arrest. He was the husband of the late Wanda Keene, who died in February 2008.
Born Feb. 19, 1954, in Scranton, son of the late Roger E. and Betty Deming Keene of Clarks Summit, he was a 1971 graduate of Abington Heights High School.
Mark was the owner of M.W. Keene Building and Masonry, Dalton, and a proud lifetime member of the Scott Twp. Hose Company.
He was a loving stepfather of David VanFleet, Florida, and the late Willard Roy VanFleet of Factoryville. Mark and Willard died together in a heroic effort to save two people who fell through the ice on a pond in Dalton.
Also surviving are a sister, Beverly Gruen and husband, Lee, Scranton; a nephew, Daniel Gruen, Scranton; uncles, aunts and cousins.
A memorial service, with full fireman's honors, will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Scott Twp. Hose Company, Route 438, Montdale, with the Rev. Judy Wanck, pastor of the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church, Clarks Summit, officiating.
