Mark A. Hagan, 47, of Dalton, died Thursday in Moses Taylor Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. His wife is the former Mary Claire Shivock. The couple celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary in August.

Born in Danville, son of Dr. P. John and Jeanne Boyd Hagan, Hop Bottom, he had lived in the Abington area for the past 12 years and was self-employed as a mechanical engineer with Hagan Associates. He was a member of St. Gregory's Church, Clarks Green.

Mark graduated from Wyoming Seminary in 1978 and attended Widener University, Chester; and Lehigh University, Bethlehem, where he received his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. He later earned a PE certification from the University of Scranton. He was first employed by GSGSB, Clarks Summit, prior to establishing his own engineering firm, Hagan Associates, in 1994. He was a former president of the Anthracite Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.

He was a loving husband and father. Among his greatest joys were his vacations and frequent weekend trips with his family. He had an incredible gift of making and keeping his many friends. He also enjoyed golfing, hunting and skiing.

Also surviving are a son, Patrick; and a daughter, Kimberley, both living at home; two sisters, Lynne Nealson, Tenefly, N.J.; and Jane Guzior, Clarks Summit; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. from St. Gregory's Church, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green, with services by Monsignor John Louis, pastor. Interment, private at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call Sunday, 2 to 5 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mary Claire Hagan, trustee for Patrick and Kimberley Hagan, c/o Community Bank and Trust, 125 N. State St., Clarks Summit, 18411.
