Marjorie L. VanNort, 86, died Saturday morning while a resident at Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center. She was the widow of Theodore C. VanNort Sr., who died in 1972.
Born in Scranton on Dec. 15, 1923, daughter of the late George and Edna Boughtin Manley, she was a graduate of Central High School and Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing. She served as an Army nurse during World War II and was stationed in Calcutta, India.
She delighted in her role as wife, mother and homemaker, and enjoyed ministering to people's needs as a private-duty nurse. She was a woman of great faith in God, and was a longtime member of the former Faith Community Church in Glenburn. She loved people, was very cheerful and giving while having a warm sense of humor.
She went to be with her Lord and savior Jesus Christ on Saturday morning.
Surviving are a son, Theodore C. VanNort Jr., Clarks Summit; a daughter, Barbara Palmiter and husband, George, Warrenville, Ill.; and two grandsons, Tim and Mark VanNort.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who loved her dearly.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. Gerald H. Major III. Interment will be in Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp.
