Marilyn Louise Melliand, 76, of Clarks Summit, died Tuesday afternoon surrounded by her family at the home of her daughter. She was the wife of the late Francis Melliand, who died in 2005.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Edna Payne Lutz. She was a 1955 graduate of Scranton Central High School.

She was the owner and operator of White House Plaster Craft in South Abington and Green Ridge. She also worked in the bakery at Weis Markets and was a clerk at the Clarks Green Market for many years. She was a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church.

Marilyn was an avid baker who enjoyed baking welsh cookies for her church. She was also a past-president of the Home School Association, enjoyed bowling in the Abington mixed league, and playing pinochle with her card club friends.

Marilyn was a loving caregiver to many, including her mother, father, and husband. Her children will always be grateful for the loving care that she so willingly gave to her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses at Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Dr. Michael Gordon, for the wonderful care that they gave to Marilyn and her family.

Surviving are her children Marilyn Getts and her husband Mark, Tunkhannock; Barbara Frutchey and her husband Jim, Clarks Summit; Frank and his wife Nancy, Clarks Summit; and Susan Schwartz and her husband Steven, Stewartstown; grandchildren, Tony Benasutti and his fiancé Lindsey Piccini; Mallory and Amy Getts; Matthew and Rachael Frutchey; Elizabeth and Bryan Melliand, and Benjamin Schwartz; step grandchildren Jim Frutchey, and Ashleigh and Kyle Schwartz; a brother Theodore Lutz and his wife Shirley; a sister-in-law Janet Lutz; and brother-in-laws Fred and Linus Melliand.

She was preceded in death by two brothers Arthur and Robert Lutz; and three sisters Elsie Snyder, Dorothy Lutz and Romayne VanEtten.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11am from the Waverly United Methodist Church, 103 Church St, Waverly, with services by Rev. Barbara Snyder.

Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8pm at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St. Clarks Summit, and on Saturday from 10am until time of service at the church.
