Marie (Nana) Graefing Malamud, 73, Clarks Summit, passed away early Christmas morning following several illnesses. She has been lovingly welcomed home by her husband and best friend of 43 years Stephen P. Malamud who passed in February of 2011. She was the picture of resilience and determined to beat all odds with her positive attitude.
Born in the Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Johanna Feldmann Graefing. She was a graduate of Wayne High School in New Jersey and continued her education by obtaining a degree in Cosmetology. Marie worked for several studios and salons over the years and maintained her own private salon in her home, but nothing was ever more important than her family.
Her love and devotion to her children would have her carpooling them to and from every practice and game of whichever sport or season. You would also hear her at the events as she rang her bell and led the cheering section. It was evident through her devotion and encouragement that she was her children's life-long biggest fan. On rare occasions she would take time for herself. In her early years, Marie enjoyed tennis, skiing and bowling. Later in life, Marie was blessed with the title "Nana". This was her true calling and her true love. You could not meet Marie and not be immediately submerged into a book of pictures and stories of her three granddaughters Hannah, Shelby and Sadie.
After retirement, Marie and her husband, Steve, would be seen working side by side planting and landscaping in their gardens, traveling or dancing. Through thick and thin, they simply enjoyed life together. Marie was a warm, kind-hearted soul who was loved and will be missed by all she touched especially her little girls.
Surviving are a son Brian Malamud and wife Shannon, Dalton; a daughter Lisa Geron and husband Michael, Lenox Twp.; a brother Alfred Graefing; Clinton Mass, an identical twin Vera Depalma and husband Jack, Las Vegas NV, three grandchildren Hannah Geron, Shelby and Sadie Malamud; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters Evelyn Locke and Louise Seda.
