Margaret Terrill O'Connor Fletcher, of Clarks Summit, died Friday morning at the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. She is survived by John A. Fletcher, whom she married in 1999. Her first husband of 42 years, James J. O'Connor, Jr., MD, died in 1995. She was known as "Peggie" to her friends.
Born in Blawnox, PA, she was the daughter of the late Donald E. and Edna Kozlosky Terrill. She was a graduate of Har-Brack High School, Natrona Heights, PA and graduated from the St. Francis School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She was employed by Mercy Hospital, Scranton. She was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church in Clarks Summit
An accomplished woman, Peggie served two terms as Mayor of Clarks Summit- the first woman elected to that position. She was a member of the Scranton Country Club where she was a six time ladies golf champion and had five "holes in one." She was a founding member of the Glenmaura National Country Club where she remained a Charter Board Member. She was a member of the Parliamentary Law Club, served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lackawanna Co. Medical Society. She was a member of the Abington Rotary Club acting as a host for their exchange student program. She was a board member of the Penn Star Bank. An exuberant and innovative cook, Peggie would host her self described "Camp Peg" cooking lessons in her kitchen, teaching her skills to her children and any novice with a willingness to learn. She loved to garden and grew bounteous flowers and vegetables but weeding, and its necessary contemplative periods, was her favorite part.
Peggie considered her greatest gifts to be her eight children and large extended family which includes two sons, James J. O'Connor III, MD, and wife Teri, Marmora, NJ, and Jeffrey D. O'Connor, and wife Moira, Wilmington, DE; six daughters, Patricia Devine, and husband Mike, Clifton, VA; Maureen Minora, and husband Amil, Scranton; Karen O'Connor and Phil Sims, Orson, PA; Susan O'Connor, Scranton; Erin McManamon, and husband Peter, Huntingdon, PA; Ellen Conde, and husband Greg, Elgin, SC; a brother, Murph Terrill and wife Jean, Irvine, PA; a sister, Julie Evans and husband Tom, Olyphant; a sister in law, Becky Terrill, Hampton, Va., twenty one grandchildren: Jim and Katie Devine, Meghan Darcy Gabello, Kevin Darcy, Matthew and Christopher Minora, Brigid, Patrick, Molly, Maggie McManamon, Kacey, Jimmy and Kelly O'Connor, Nolan and Evan O'Connor, Brian, Morgan and Michael Conde, Louis and Andrew Minora, and Michele Minora Felins; five great grandchildren, Gavin Darcy, Anna, Sophia, Emilia, and Brynn Gabello; and lifelong and dearest friend, Marie Manning, Dalton, Pa.
Also preceding her in death was her brother, Donald E. Terrill Jr. and grandaughter, Nancy Minora.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10 am from St. Paul's Church, 1510 Penn Avenue, Scranton, Pa.with services by Msgr. Michael J. Delaney, assistant Pastor. All those attending are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 pm at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice of Lackawanna County; Altzheimer's Association of N.E. PA; The Epilepsy Foundation of Western PA.
