Margaret "Peggy" Mitchell, 84, formerly of Lake Winola, died Tuesday at Country Meadows of Bethlehem after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Alexander G. Mitchell; her parents Mae Stockton Smith and Robert Smith; and her sister, Beverly Fritzges.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Cronan and her husband Michael of Fogelsville; her grandson Richard A. Stine and his partner Leeann Shoudt of Bethlehem; and several nieces and nephews.
Born in Scranton, Peggy was a graduate of West Pittston High School and Wyoming Seminary, where she was the top stenographer in her class. Peggy spent many years as a caregiver to her mother, Mae. In 1985, Peggy and Alex moved to Lake Winola where they would spend the next 31 years together.
A service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Harding. For those planning to attend Peggy's services, the family respectfully asks that all attendants wear a mask.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.
