Margaret Rose McGowan (née Harrity) died Thursday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. Her husband is James P. (Miles) McGowan. The couple married in 1991.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late William Leo and Margaret Smith Harrity. Prior to retirement, she worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years as a rural letter carrier for both Factoryville and Dalton. She was a 1967 graduate of West Scranton High School and a member of the Church of Saint Gregory. She was a member of the Abington Memorial Post 7069 VFW, Clarks Summit, Pa.

Surviving are a daughter, Rebecca Severcool Luzi, and her husband, Frank, of Havertown, Pa., and a son, Matthew Severcool, of Clarks Summit; two grandchildren, Nathaniel and Francesca Luzi; a brother, William Harrity, of Duryea; a sister, Barbara O'Neill, of Scranton; several nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Robert McGowan (Dawn); and sisters-in-law, Kathleen Bower (Dane), Mary Scott (Reese), Ann Hallinan (Gene), Lois Vidra (Joe), and Nora Hinkley. Nothing was more important to her than family, most of all she loved being Grammy, and she dearly loved her many friends.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James Harrity, in 2001.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Church of Saint Gregory, 330 North Abington Rd., Clarks Green, Pa. 18411, by Rev. John Lapera, pastor.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 p.m to 7 p.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may go to Church of Saint Gregory or Factoryville Fire Company, P.O. Box 275, Factoryville, Pa. 18419.
