Margaret Scavo Arcangelo
November 17, 1922 – April 8, 2017
Margaret Scavo Arcangelo, widow of John Arcangelo, daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Muracca Scavo passed away peacefully Saturday morning surrounded by her family.
Margaret, who was a graduate of Old Forge High School, resided in the Abington area for 74years. She was a member of St. Gregory's Church and was involved in many community organizations including: the Women's Guild, the Abington Women's Club, the Association of PA Retirees, and the Abington Senior Center. Prior to her retirement in 1984, she served as an audio visual aide at the Abington Heights High School. She volunteered at Saint Gabriel's Monastery for 15 years and was chosen as Outstanding Volunteer of the Year in 1998.
Surviving are five children: Doris Lindsley, Clarks Summit; Joanne Arcangelo, Phoenix, Arizona; John Arcangelo and wife Chris, Clarks Green; Frank Arcangelo and wife Diane Fitzgerald, Saratoga, New York; and Michael Arcangelo and wife Karen, Clarks Summit. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Jeffrey Greenspan, Phoenix, Arizona; John Arcangelo, Clarks Green; Josef Greenspan, Phoenix, Arizona; Amy Begley, Clarks Summit; Karen Arcangelo, San Rafael, California; Kristen Arcangelo, Manayunk,PA; Matthew Arcangelo, Stamford, Connecticut; and Joseph Arcangelo, State College, PA; 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Angela Scavo, brothers Joseph, Anthony, Angelo, Frank, and Philip, and four sisters Mary Marmo, Josephine Ferri, Catherine DeStefano, and Genevieve Zaydon, and son-in-law Bill Lindsley.
Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with family and cooking for them. Every Christmas was filled with cappelletti, ravioli, honey balls, and pizza fritta, every Easter with dollies, and every wedding with homemade cookies. She was a wonderful and generous woman who will be missed by all.
The funeral will be Wednesday April 12 at 10am at the Church of Saint Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road Clarks Green. Friends may call Tuesday April 11 from 4 to 8 pm at the church and Wednesday 8:30 to 10 am at the church prior to the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Gabriel's Monastery and Saint Francis of Assisi Soup Kitchen.
