Malcolm B. Ferguson died Thursday at Mercy Hospice Unit. He was the husband of Lurena J. "Renie" Ferguson. They had been married for 50 years.

Born in Syracuse, N.Y., on April 4, 1938, he was the son of the late Burdette and Eleanor Markham Ferguson. He was a member of Clarks Summit United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir for many years and served on a variety of committees, including as a trustee. He was a graduate of Baldwinsville Academy and Syracuse University, where he was a member of Sigma Nui Society.

After graduation, he was employed by Sun Oil Co., Alexandria, Va.; Liberty Mutual, Syracuse; and Philadelphia Mutual Insurance Co., Syracuse. One of his clients was Mark IV Homes, Scranton, and he was hired to be general manager of the Scranton plant. He also worked for Gross Brown Insurance Agency, Scranton, until he opened his own insurance agency in 1975. Before retirement, he was president of Mark Insurance Agency Inc.

He was a member of the Fulton, N.Y., Lions Club and president of the South Abington Lions Club. He served on the Clarks Summit and South Abington Joint Sewer Authority for many years. He also was involved with Boy Scout Troop 160.

Malcolm had a high energy factor and was always optimistic about the results of any situation. He constantly had a smile on his face and could enter a room and know everyone in a short period of time.

Malcolm was a devoted husband, father and friend. He was a very special man, and we were all blessed to have him in our lives.

Also surviving are two sons, Mark K. Ferguson, Pittston; and Stephen S. Ferguson, Scranton; a mother-in-law, Eugenia Smith, who has lived with Renie and Malcolm for 20 years; three brothers, Duane Bunyea, Lysander, N.Y.; Roderick Bunyea, Maryland and Zephyrhills, Fla.; and Maurice Ferguson, Baldwinsville, N.Y.; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
