Lucille Blackwell, 85, of Newton Twp., died Monday morning at Abington Manor Nursing Home in Clarks Summit. She was the wife of 55 years of the late Charlton C. "Charlie " Blackwell, who died in 1998.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Thomas Oliver and Ada Ellen Price Beacham, she was a graduate of the Newton Ransom School.
Although farming was most of her life, she also was employed by the Abington Heights School District and retired as a dietary aide for the Clarks Summit State Hospital. She was a member of the Countryside Community Church and formerly a member of Milwaukee United Methodist Church. Lucille was a former member of the Newton Ransom Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, a district deputy for the International Order of Rainbow for Girls and the Eastern Star.
She was also a member of the Dairyman's League and a 4H and Girl Scout leader.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ellen Burton and husband, Gary, Newton Twp.; a son, Jerry and wife, Lenay, Ransom Twp.; a son-in-law, Robert Cummings, Newton Twp.; two granddaughters, Mindy Joy Mendicino, Clarks Summit; and Kandy Joy Taylor, Falls; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Chloe; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, JoAnne Marie Cummings, in 2000; a brother, Thomas Beacham; and a sister, Mary Garrison.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at noon in the Countryside Community Church, Church Hill Road and Newton Ransom Boulevard, Clarks Summit, with services to be officiated by the Rev. Dr. J.P. Duncan, pastor of the Countryside Community Church. An Eastern Star service will be held at 11:30 a.m.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Milwaukee Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Countryside Community Church or to the Newton Ransom Fire Company.
