Louise Miller Check

Louise Miller Check, 91, of Clarks Summit, died Thursday morning at Regional Hospital in Scranton. She was the wife of the late James M. Check, who died in 1978.

Born in Peckville, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Elizabeth "Betty" Wellard Miller. She resided in Clarks Summit since 1958, and was a 1943 graduate of Blakely High School.

During World War II, she worked as a draftsman at Kollsman Square D Company in Long Island New York, after the war she worked in the office of the Association of Casualty and Surety Executives in New York. After moving back to Pennsylvania she worked at Murray Corporation, Northeastern Natl. Bank, and served as secretary to the executive director of Planned Parenthood.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit, a past deacon of the church, a member of the church Circle, as well as a volunteer in the office.

Surviving is a son James and his wife Donna, Clarks Summit; two daughters Laurel Deborah Sweet and her husband Larry, Birch Tree MO; and Linda Mittelstaedt and her husband Albert, Browns Mills, NJ; a sister Ruth Clenance, Manassas, VA; five grandchildren Charles Kenneth and Kevin McPherson, Joshua Sweet, and Caroline and Daniel Check; one great grandson Keith McPherson; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 1 pm from the Lawrence E Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St. Clarks Summit Pa., to be officiated by Rev. William Carter, Pastor of the first Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit. Entombment in Glenwood Mausoleum will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends Sunday from noon until time of service at the funeral home.
