Lois A. Stoeckel, 83, formerly of Clarks Summit, died peacefully Monday at home in East Greenwich, RI surrounded by her family. Her husband was the late Emil Carl Stoeckel who died in 2013. The couple had been married for 58 years.
Born in Madisonville,she was the daughter of the late James and Jennie Catherine Miller Hopes. She grew up in Madisonville and lived in Clarks Summit for 56 years. Lois earned her Registered Nurse degree from Moses Taylor School of Nursing. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit.
Lois was a happy, genuinely friendly person who greeted everyone with a smile. She was always ready and willing to help anyone who needed it. Her family meant everything to her, and she greatly enjoyed the time she got to spend with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are three children, Pamela Stoeckel O'Day, North Kingstown, R.I.; Mark Stoeckel and partner, Susan Cordina, Providence, R.I.; and Judy Stoeckel Fried and husband, David, East Greenwich, R.I.; a brother, James Hopes, and his wife, Angela, Winter Haven, FL; eight grandchildren, Bill, James and wife, Jamie; Jennifer O'Day, Elizabeth, Daniel and Rachel Fried; Nicolas and J.P. Cordina; one great grandchild, Catherine Grace O'Day; a brother in law Gene Stoeckel and his wife Yvonne, Clarks Summit; a sister in law, Esther Stoeckel, Clarks Summit; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son in law, Jim O'Day; two sisters, Wilhelmina Wagner and Mary Lou Wombacker; and a brother in law, Robert Stoeckel.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 School St., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. Virginia Miner.
Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
