Lois J. Jones, 89, of Clarks Summit, died Friday morning at Green Ridge Health Care Center in Scranton. She was the wife of the late Dr. John P. Jones DDS, who died in 1984.
Born in Scranton on June 5th 1927 she was the daughter of the late Theodore R. and Jesse Clark Jones. She was a 1944 graduate of Scranton Central High School and went on to receive her bachelor's degree in Home Economics from Marywood University in 1948. After graduation she worked as a dietician at Clarks Summit State Hospital and then taught home economics in the Scranton School District until she started her family. She returned to teaching Home Economics at Abington Heights in the 70's and later worked at PNC Bank until her retirement in 1992.
Lois devoted her life to caring for her family and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarks Summit. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling and spending time at the beach. She was also a former member of the Scranton Canoe Club.
Surviving are four sons Clark and his Wife Sally, Blakeslee; Seth and his wife Ulla, Waverly; Vance and his wife Melissa, Clarks Green; and Eric and his wife Marilyn, Archbald; a daughter Gwenyth Jones-Billets and her husband Scott, Factoryville; a sister Marilyn Ewen, Indiana; eight grandchildren Jacelyn, Ethan, Adam, Camilla, Isabella, Eric, Jason, and Sarah; two great grandchildren Connor and Caitlin; a niece, Karen Beech; a step sister, Carolyn Maize, MD, and a step brother, William Cole, NJ.
She was preceded in death by her step mother, Louise Cole Jones "Nana", who she was close to for most of her adult life.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Green Ridge Health Care Center, the Clarks Summit Senior Living Center's kind and considerate employees, Dr. Yvonne Galella, and the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the exceptional care and compassion extended to Lois.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11am from the First Presbyterian Church, 300 School St. Clarks Summit Pa. 18411, with Services by Rev. Bill Carter, Pastor. Interment will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly.
The family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 7 pm at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St. Clarks Summit Pa. 18411 and on Saturday at the church from 10am until time of service.
