The Rev. Lawrence E. Walter Jr., 74, of Dalton, was promoted to glory Friday evening at Regional Hospital of Scranton after a short illness, surrounded by his family. His wife of 54 years is the former Carol Holmes.
Born in Johnson City, N.Y., he was the son of the late Lawrence E. Sr. and Blanche Denton Walter. He was a 1961 graduate of Vestal High School in New York. He went on to study religious education at Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, where he earned his BRE.
Lawrence loved watching the news, hunting in his younger days, spending time with his grandchildren, but most of all preaching the gospel.
Also surviving are four children, Daniel Walter and wife, Judy, Dalton; David Walter and wife, Debra, Cortland, Ohio; Susan Walter, Dalton; and Barbara Venett and husband, Michael, Saugerties, N.Y.; a sister, Beverly Brigham, Greenville. S.C.; 10 grandchildren, Ben, Mark, Abby, Sarah, Timothy, Hannah, Alyssa, Sam, Brittany and Zachery; two great-granddaughters, Alexis and Lorelai; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. from Fellowship Baptist Church, 302 W. Main St., Dalton. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Dalton.
Friends may visit from 9 until the time of the service at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc.
