Lavina A. Lewis, formerly of Justus, Scott Twp.,passed away February 12 from complications with the flu at Lourdes hospital, Binghamton, New York. She was 16 days shy of her 102 nd birthday.
Born March 1, 1916 in Waverly, PA, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Gladys Deats Clark and a direct descendent of William Deacon Clark, the founder of Clarks Green.
Lavina was preceded in death by her husband, Judson Lewis in 1987, together they established many restaurants in the area including the original Summit diner and most recently the Homestead Kitchen in Justus. She was noted for her fabulous food and delicious pies. She baked her famous pies, that were enjoyed by many, for Sebastianilli's restaurant in Eynon and developed a close relationship with the Sebastianilli family. She was always associated with the restaurant business, if not the owner, the cook, baker, waitress or hostess locally and in California and Florida.
Surviving is her sister Betty Dodgson, Vestal, New York and brother Amos Clark, Scott Twp.; grandsons Scott and his wife, Paul and his companion, a step-grandson William and his wife; nine great grandchildren, twelve great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and cherished friends, especially Al Manning and his wife and the pinochle club in which she participated until last year when she moved to New York.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Phyllis and husband William Heinz, a granddaughter Lisa, her sister Helen Clark Silfee and brothers, Merle and Robert Clark.
Nana was such a loving presence in the lives of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was so full of life and love that we thought she would be with us forever. She will be deeply missed and eternally loved.
A lively, stylish woman, always on the go with more energy than she knew what to do with. A wealth of knowledge for family history with a mind that never quit, she will be greatly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her.
Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us everyday.
Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed and very dear.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
