Larry A. Wellard, 69 of Newton Twp. passed peacefully Saturday evening surrounded by his family at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore. He and his loving wife Leslie Luke Wellard recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary having been married since June 14, 1969.



Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Harold and Sarah Lanyon Wellard. He was a Navy Veteran serving two tours in the Vietnam War. He was a proud life member and past Chief of the Chinchilla Volunteer Hose Company. Prior to his retirement he was a truck driver for Penns Best Trucking.

Also surviving is a daughter Kristin L. Svoboda and her husband Paul, Newton Twp.; his grandchildren, Julyan Svoboda, Zachary and Hayley Cosner and a brother Keith Wellard and his wife Ellen, S. Abington Twp.



He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, having coffee with the guys at the diner and fixing almost anything for anyone. He looked forward to seeing the children at his daughter's daycare center, Karing for Kids, where he was fondly known as Doosy and served as the honorary Mayor of Gerrity's as he visited daily to see many friends, old and new.



A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1pm in the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State S., Clarks Summit with Fireman and Military honors. Interment will be in Abington Hills Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until time of the service.
