Kenneth Henry Hopkins, 71, of Clarks Summit, died Thursday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. His wife is the former Katherine Stoodley. The couple have been married for more than 49 years.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Robert E. and A. Caroline Rieder Hopkins. Before his retirement, he was a draftsman for PennDOT and later the owner-operator of Hopkins Services garage in Newton. He was a member of the former Schultzville Methodist and then attended the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit.
Ken was mechanically inclined and enjoyed working on cars and rebuilding machines of all kinds. He also enjoyed genealogy, and never missed an opportunity to laugh at a good joke.
Also surviving are three sons, Robert Douglas and his companion, Mardi Moore, Lemon Twp., and their children, Paulie and Madison; James Lawrence and his wife, Stephanie, Bellefonte, and their daughter, Hazel; and Thomas Jeffrey, Austin, Texas; two brothers, Bruce and his wife, Sandra, Clarks Summit; and David and his wife, Leigh, Dalton; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. William Carter, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit. Interment with the immediate family will follow in Newton Cemetery.
