Kathy Calhoun Weir, Phd

Kathy Weir, 69, beloved wife of Robert M. Weir, Jr., mother of Elizabeth Kelly and grandmother "Meems" of Brynn Kelly, all of Fleetville, PA, departed this life January 2, 2017. She had a massive stroke New Year's Day. She suffered a heart attack the day after Christmas.

Kathy was the daughter of Kenneth and Dorothy Calhoun, both deceased. She was a graduate of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. She earned a BA degree from Hartwick College, a MS degree from Shippensburg University, a MA degree from Montana State University, and PhD from Washington State University.

Academic preparation notwithstanding, Kathy's main goal in life was to be a great full-time mother and wife. She earned five star ratings in both categories. Recently, she happily served as adjunct faculty at Johnson College.

Kathy was active through the years as a horse show mom, sports mom, and Girl Scout brownie troop leader. She often volunteered her husband to co-chaperone outings, pretend to be a bear in the woods on camping trips and, all too often, pay the food bill for which the girls did not raise enough money.

Kathy was a great friend to unwanted cats, dogs, donkeys, and horses. She fed them, made sure they received veterinary care, and adopted many over the years. Her little calico cat, Maude, has slept on one of her jackets every day and night since her passing.

Kathy was an educator's educator. She helped many students at Johnson College and in our local community with their writing skills and history projects. She proofread many papers and tutored more than a few students at our kitchen table. One of her great hopes for the future was a quality education for "my darling granddaughter, Brynnie".

Kathy was a wonderful wife to husband Bob for 46 ½ years. She will be sorely missed by him, family, and friends. "Mother Weir" you left us too soon…our hearts are broken.

Following cremation, a celebration of Kathy's life will be held at 10:00 am Saturday January 14, 2017, at the Church of the Epiphany, Glenburn Township, PA.
