Mrs. Kathleen Thrasher Smith, age 72, of Clarks Summit, passed away on July 1, 2018 after a courageous battle with leukemia. She was born to the late Joan Cerra on July 7, 1945. Kathie was the beloved wife of Glenn Smith.
Kathie graduated from Technical High School in 1963, and was a long-time employee of RCA. She loved spending time with her extended family and friends, many of whom resided temporarily with her. Her door was always open and, if there was a knock on the door, she knew it was a stranger. She was a second mom to countless, beloved by all who encountered her. She enjoyed her season tickets for Broadway Theater League, traveling, and cooking for the masses.Year after year, she could be found celebrating her "Most Holy of all Holy Days", the Scranton St. Patrick's Day Parade, at her usual location, the "Hotel Shillelagh". She also enjoyed drinking wine overlooking her backyard lake. Her most recent adventures took her to Hawaii, Memphis and New Orleans.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Stephen Dembral and Brian Smith; sister Louise Cali; and stepfather, Anthony Cerra.
Kathie is survived by her son, Daniel Smith and wife Lauren; daughters Donna Basila and husband George, Deb Mulder and husband Rob, and Amanda Evans and wife Joeleen; brothers Joseph Thrasher and wife Judi, Thomas Cerra, Chris Cerra and wife Judy, and Anthony Cerra and wife Wendy; sisters Aimee Thrasher and Dorothy Cerra; grandchildren Marissa Dembral, Stephen Dembral, Caitlin Bruce, Brian Taborne, Kyle Taborne, Preston Smith, Connor Smith, and Charlotte Smith. She is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren: Laila and Aria Vincent, Hudson Dembral and her long-time best friend and partner in crime, Anne Warrick.
A Mass to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, July 7 th at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Snows, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremations Services Inc. In lieu of flowers, a donation of blood to the American Red Cross is appreciated.
