Joyce Koons

Joyce (George) Koons, 85, of Newton Twp, died Saturday morning, at VNA Hospice in Scranton. Her husband of 62 years is Donald Koons.

Born in Wilkes Barre, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy Belles George. Joyce was a 1948 Graduate of Coughlin High School and member of the Church of St. Benedict in Newton. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed the simple things in life such as cooking, gardening, and being a caregiver. Her grandchildren were her everything, as well as her dog Lily, all of whom will miss her dearly.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of the Asera Care in home Hospice for their warm and compassionate care, especially Tamera, Donna, and Dawn. They would also like to thank the staff at Geisinger VNA Hospice for their help during Joyce's final days.

Surviving are a son, Tom Koons, Castle Rock, CO; two daughters Lori Bishop and her companion Anthony Selvenis, Clarks Summit; Carol Stancavish, Clarks Summit; a sister Sandra Forster, Orange, PA; grandchildren, Michael, DJ and Tim Koons; Robby and Alex Bishop; and Christopher Stancavish; a well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother Thomas George.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10 am from the Church of St. Benedict, 1111 Newton Ransom Blvd., Clarks Summit. Interment to follow in Newton Cemetery. All friends are asked to go directly to church.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. 418 S. State St. Clarks Summit.
