Joseph G. Vincent, 93 of the Village of Milwaukee, Clarks Summit PA passed away September 11 th 2020 in the company of his family.
A native to the area, Joseph, at 18 years of age, served as a Sergeant in WWII and a sharpshooter for the US Army overseas in Germany.
Upon his return from active duty, Joseph earned a Degree in Business from Bloomsburg Teachers College (now University) after which he taught Business Math and Accounting at Hammonton High School in Hammonton, NJ. Along with teaching, Joseph was a well-liked coach for Hammonton's Varsity Basketball team. In 1952, he led of one of the most successful basketball teams in Hammonton High School history, taking his team to win victory after victory all the way to Championships and calling his players and their talents 'a gift.'
Subsequent to his coaching at Hammonton, Joseph spent summers as a lifeguard in Ocean City, NJ before relocating to the Philadelphia area where he met and married Joan, a Philadelphia native. He made a life-long career of marketing endeavors for several Fortune 10 companies in the area. During this time, he also purchased land and built a home with his wife in Paoli, PA, on Philadelphia's Main Line. On this new property, Joseph expanded his interests to include horticulture, and became an avid arborist, completely landscaping his acreage. A few years later a daughter, Carla was born, and not long after the arrival of second daughter, Jane, completed the family.
After two decades, Joseph relocated his family, returning to Northeastern Pennsylvania, where he and his wife once again purchased land and built a family home in Ransom Township. Once again, Joseph gained much joy from designing and landscaping his property.
Joseph was a man of many interests. In addition to his horticulture/arborist activities, Joseph's time was spent on photography, where he was an exhibited artist. He was an aficionado of both classic and modern art. He played the trumpet and formulated an extensive big band and jazz record collection featuring Stan Kenton, whom he met on one occasion. Joseph was passionate about classic cars. He was self-taught in both auto-body and engine repair. He was a regular at the classic car shows in the Wilkes-Barre Scranton area.
He is succeeded by his wife, Joan, daughters Carla and Jane, granddaughter Ava Rose, grandsons Vincent and Evan, and cousins Barbara Bjanes and Joanie Chisarick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 South State Street, Clarks Summit, with services by Rev. Stephen A. Asomah, Assistant Pastor. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
