Joseph Smarkusky, 90, died Tuesday morning at Allied Hospice Center. He was the husband of the late Betty Lidy Smarkusky with whom he was married 49 years.
Born in Olyphant, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Komichak Smarkusky. He was the co-owner of Dependable Carpet Service, Taylor, before retiring in 1994. He served in the United States Army from April 1955 to April 1957. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pittston. Joseph loved to garden and took pride in his lawn and flowers.
Surviving are his children, Eric Smarkusky and wife, Cathy, Port Matilda; daughter, Debra Smarkusky and wife, Sharon Ann Toman, Clarks Summit; a brother, William Smarkusky; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John Smarkusky; and sisters, Mary Rolsing and Pauline Begin.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp. Friends may call Friday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choosing.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
