Joseph W. Packer, Dalton, died Wednesday afternoon at Geisinger Community Medical Center. He was the husband of Rose Carpenter Packer, the couple had been married for 57 years.

Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late John and Beatrice Bradley Packer. He was a graduate of Carbondale High School and prior to retirement he was a locomotive engineer for the Canadian Pacific, formerly D & H Railroad for nearly 40 years. He was a proud veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the Army Paratrooper Division.

He was a beloved husband who loved spending time with his wife and their dog Ollie, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking and getting together with his old pals at the diner in Clifford.

Also surviving are two sons, Joseph W. Packer, Jr., Dalton, and James Packer and his wife Debbie, Fort Wayne, IN; two daughters, Colleen Cucura, Fleetville and Michaelene Miller and her husband Robert, Cranbury, NJ; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Jack, Clinton and Robert Packer and a sister Jean Bullard.

Funeral Service and Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
