Joseph Muskey, 80, of Peckville, formerly of Clarks Summit, died on Sunday at Community Medical Center, Scranton.
He was the son of the late Eugene Thomas and Evelyn Dougherty Muskey. He was a graduate of Central High School, Keystone Junior College, and the University of Scranton. Joseph built a long career at Ryder before going on to run his own consulting business in the trucking industry.
He shared over 35 years of marriage with Alice (Pugh) Muskey, with whom he remained close and on warm terms throughout his life.
He was, above all, an ever-present dad — the kind who showed up. Whether on the softball fields and basketball courts of Scranton where he grew up, a decade spent watching and coaching his kids, or simply cheering on the local athletes of NEPA, he was a fixture on the local sports scene for as long as anyone could remember. He was a proud father to Christopher Muskey (wife, Nikki) and Jessica Muskey (husband, Craig Carey), and an even prouder grandfather to Wren and Junie Carey, and Hayden and Hannah Muskey. Known for his positive outlook and easy likability, he was the kind of person people were simply glad to be around.
Joseph is survived by Alice Muskey; his children, Christopher Muskey (Nikki) and Jessica Muskey (Craig Carey); and his grandchildren, Wren, Junie, Hayden, and Hannah. He is also survived by his sisters, Patsy Dettinger, Nancy Davis, Carol Grady, and Mary Joan Burke; and his brother-in-law, George Pugh.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gene Muskey and James Muskey.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Thursday, September 24th, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
