Joseph Andrel Mershon Gluba died Wednesday, July 3, at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. He was the husband of Ruth Corby Koelewyn of Dunmore, Pennsylvania.
Born in Denver, Colorado, Joe was the son of Andrew Joseph Gluba and Marsha Murray. He graduated from Sumter High School in Sumter, South Carolina, and received a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech and a Master of Architecture from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He was a registered architect, a LEED Certified Green Associate, and founded the Office of Small Architecture in 2007. After serving in various firms, Joe worked as an Assistant Professor of Architecture and Interior Architecture at Marywood University. He regularly brought students to work with Habitat for Humanity in Wilkes-Barre. He also served on the Young Professionals Auxiliary Board for the United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Joe is survived by: his parents; three sisters, Karyn Withrow and her husband Tee of Virginia; Coran Fletcher and husband James of Illinois; and Colleen Gluba and Don Miller of Florida; eight nieces and nephews, Christopher Eby; Alyssa Haarer; Ryan Morris; Harrison, Emily, and Katie Berry; Holden Gluba; and Canyon Miller; and father-in-law Arie Koelewyn, mother-in-law Katherine Corby, sister-in-law Abigail Koelewyn, and brother-in-law Andrew Koelewyn. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Marsha and Joseph Murray; Andrew Mershon Gluba; and Mildred Jane and Eugene V. White.
