Joseph Martin McLaughlin, 93, of Clarks Summit, died Saturday morning in the Hospice Unit at Mercy Hospital. His wife, the former Ida Dorn McLaughlin, died in 1992.

Born in the Minooka section, son of the late James and Mary McLaughlin, he was a Navy veteran who served in the Pacific during World War II. He had worked with Teamsters Union locals 229 and 401 as a truck driver with Richard's Highway Express and retired from Maislin Trucking. He was a man of the Catholic faith.

The family would like to thank the Lackawanna County Health Care Center, Mercy Hospice Unit and Dr. Linda Thomas for all of their care and compassion.

Surviving are a daughter, Karen Felts and husband, Bill, Clarks Summit; two sons, Joseph Martin Jr. and wife, Jacqueline, Moosic; and Thomas and wife, Gayle, Clarks Summit; nine grandchildren, Sally Ann Jones, Jacqueline Donelan, Kelly Richmond, Debbi Dymek, Joseph McLaughlin III and Thomas, Michael, James and Katie McLaughlin; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James and Thomas, and four sisters, Alice, Peggy, Rita and Marie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in St. Ann's Basilica, St. Ann's Street. Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Township.

Friends may call Monday, 5 to 7 p.m., at the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann's St. In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to the Lackawanna County Humane Society, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, 18411; or Lackawanna Health Care, Sturges Road, Olyphant, 18447.
