Joseph William Marx, 94, of Clarks Summit, died Thursday evening at Riverside Rehab and Nursing Home in Taylor. He was the husband of the former Dorothy Burke. The couple has been married for 59 Years.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Louise Hauser Marx.

He was a 1938 graduate of St. Mary's Assumption. He was a proud Army Air Corps Veteran and served as an armored gunner on B-17 bombers during World War II. He was employed for a few years by Glenn Martin Co., building bombers. After the war he graduated from Catholic University in Washington D.C., as an Aeronautical Engineer. He spent a few years as a flight test engineer at the Naval Air Test Center at Pawtuxet River, Md. He concluded his career at Links Aviation in Binghamton, N.Y., where he was employed as an aircraft simulator engineer.

Over the years, he belonged to several flying clubs and spent a good part of his spare time taking his family and friends flying in his private plane. He spent his retirement living on the Newton Ransom Boulevard. He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church.

A special thank you to his sister-in-law, Ann Marie Haikes, for her care and compassion. Also surviving are several loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise McDermott.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. from Our lady of the Snows Church, 301 South State St., Clarks Summit. All those attending are asked to go directly to church. Interment will follow with military honors in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

The family will receive friends Monday from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dioceses of Scranton Annual Appeal, 300 Wyoming Ave., Scranton, PA 18503-1279. -
