Joseph W. Kaczmarek of Clarks Summit died Friday evening at the Abington Manor Nursing Facility. He and his wife, the former Linda Burdick, had been married for 22 years and lived most of their marriage in Taylor.
Born Feb. 14, 1940, in Taylor, son of the late Anna Kopack and Francis Kaczmarek, he was a graduate of Taylor High School in 1958 and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Scranton. Joe was an Army veteran, and had a distinguished 33-year career as an auditor/accountant before retiring from Tobyhanna Army Depot.
Throughout his life, he was an avid Penn State football fan, and a devoted family man. You could always count on him quietly cheering and supporting his children and grandchildren in their activities and accomplishments.
He was a loyal and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed family vacations at the beach and his Thursday night dinners with his wife at Revello's in Old Forge. He loved listening to country music during rides with his wife.
Surviving are a daughter, Joanna C. Morris and husband, Scott, Collegeville; a son, Joseph and wife, Jennifer, Canton, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Chrissy Gilhooley and husband, Mike, Clarks Summit; a stepson, Michael McKeefery and wife, Kelly, Taylor; 13 grandchildren, Lucas, Max, Gabrielle, Noah, Julianna, Connor, Isabella, Mathew, Casey, Amanda, Sean, Patrick and Katie Rose; and cousins, Lorraine Roman, Edward Swiencki and Mary Reider.
He was preceded in death by cousin, Dr. Francis Kopack.
Special thanks are given to his caretaker, Georgie Duddeck, and the staff at Abington Manor, who took such great care of him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church, South State Street, Clarks Summit. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
