Listen to Obituary
Joseph Francis Green, 63, of Factoryville died early Thursday at Thomas Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia, after an eleven year battle with Ocular Melanoma. His wife of 26 years is the former Marilyn Jenkins of Lake Sheridan.

Born in Scranton on January 26, 1950, he was the son of the late Robert and Pauline Phillips Green, formerly of Fleetville. Joe was a 1967 graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School and graduated from Keystone Junior College and the University of Scranton. He retired in March 2010 from Clarks Summit State Hospital after 35 years of service in the Recreation Department.

Joe was a devoted father and mentor to his three children, Bobby, Caitlin and Jillian, and enjoyed his role as a Benton Little League coach and assistant. His proudest moments were those spent watching his children perform and participate in concert, sporting, and academic events in high school and college. They were his proudest achievements in this life. Joe had a quick wit and infectious smile, and possessed an uncanny mechanical and electrical ability. He was known as the "go to guy" to family and friends whenever something was broken. If Joe Green couldn't fix it then one knew they were going to have to spend some money. He was an avid New York Giants, Yankees, and Rangers Fan. Joe was a practical kind of guy who truly enjoyed the quiet simple life. He was a member of The Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Green, and was a previous communicant of St. Patrick's Church of Nicholson. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife and children, Joe is survived by a brother, John and wife, Patricia, Yardley; a sister, Mary and husband, Colin, Lansdale; six brothers-in-law, Arthur, Lake Sheridan; David and wife, LuAnn, Nicholson; Carl and wife, Anna, Saddle Lake; William, Lake Sheridan; Robert and partner, Susan Seamans, Factoryville; Jeffrey, Clinton, Maryland; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Stone and husband Jamie, Chinchilla; a very special friend and confidant, Allan Ferdyn, Clarks Summit; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, two grand nephews, and a grand niece.

He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Charl Parry Jenkins, and a special brother-in-law, Mark Christopher Jenkins, on April 3, 2010.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at The Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Rd., Clarks Green, with the Rev. John Lapera officiating. The family requests that anyone attending the Mass to please go directly to the church. Interment will follow at Clarks Green Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, 3 to 6 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home 418 S. State St. Clarks Summit.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
