John Stemrich, 66, of Scott Twp., died Sunday morning at Geisinger CMC in Scranton.  His wife is the former Carol  Stark, the couple had been married for 43 years.

Born in Oakland, CA, he was the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth Ann Kasper Stemrich.  He was a graduate of Abington Heights High School and Keystone Jr. College, Class of 1973, and Johnson College, in 2009.  He was a proud Navy veteran during the Vietnam War. John had fond memories of being a Boy Scout in his youth.   He belonged to Our Lady of the Abingtons Church, and prior to his retirement in August of 2017, he was employed as an electrical technician at Tobyhanna Army Depot.

John enjoyed gardening and was a "grill master" who loved cooking on the grill for his family.

Also surviving is a son, Thomas Stemrich ( Miguel Garcia), Bronx, NY; a daughter Carrie Stemrich (Jason Carpenter), SanDiego, CA; a brother Rob Stemrich (Mickie), Factoryville; two sisters, Gail Kavalow,Clarks Summit and Donna Burger (Darrell Olver), Waymart; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son Michael Stemrich and a sister Cheryl Stemrich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10 am from Our Lady of the Abingtons Church, 700 W Main St, Dalton, PA 18414.  Interment with full military honors will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.  All those attending are asked to go directly to the church.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA  18411.

Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Abingtons Church or the Boy Scouts of America, 72 Montage Mountain Rd, Moosic, PA 18507.
