John Winston Spory, known to family and friends as Jack, died Monday at age 90 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart. He is survived by his widow, the former Charlotte Parsons, to whom he was married for 68 years. They lived in Clarks Summit since 1979.

Born in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Dyer) Spory. After graduating from high school, Jack enlisted in the US Navy in September 1946 and served 5 years. He graduated from the University of Delaware in 1955 with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked as an electrical engineer most of his life and retired as a machine supervisor from CertainTeed in 1994. Jack was a 69-year member of the Masonic Fraternity, most recently a member of Waverly Lodge No. 301 F&AM in Clarks Green. He also was a 32nd Degree Master Mason and member of the Keystone Consistory.

He was an active member of the Presbyterian Church serving as both an elder and deacon in Front Royal, VA, Glens Falls, NY, and Clarks Summit, PA. He was a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Ebensburg and a scout leader in VA, FLA, MD, and PA. Jack supported youth sports activities throughout his life and was one of the founders of the Youth Center in Front Royal, VA. He was a lifelong golfer and enjoyed being the score keeper for the Clarks Summit Golf League and avidly played golf until he was 88.

Also surviving are three sons, J.Michael Spory and wife Patricia of Front Royal, VA; Steven Spory and wife Lisa of Honesdale; Richard Spory and wife Rose of Scranton; a daughter Penny Spory and her husband Joseph Sepe, Newfoundland; a brother Gene Paul Spory, North Carolina; eleven grandchildren, Ben, Matthew, Emily, Olivia, Steven, David, and Jennifer Spory, Beth Whitney, Jessica Chaya, Joseph and Jonathan Sepe; six great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Elise Whitney, Johnathan and Aubrey Spory, Addison Sepe, and Margaret Chaya; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother Donald Spory, and three sisters, Phyllis Reighard, Margaret Spory and Jane Eppley.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 8th at 11 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit, 300 School Street, to be celebrated by Rev. William Carter, Pastor. A Masonic service and Military Honors will be conducted at the church. Interment will be private in Clarks Green Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 am until the time of the service.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremations Services Inc. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit.
