John P. Phillips, 40, of Clarks Summit died Friday afternoon after a courageous battle with cancer. His widow is the former Cindy A. Moylan. The couple married in 2002.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of Neil Phillips, Newton Twp., and the late Ruth Isabelle Seymour Phillips. Before his illness, he was a driver for the Ryder Corporation and previously an independent driver, leasing Keller Trucking. John was a member of the Clarks Green Assembly of God Church. He was a 1993 graduate of Abington Heights High School, where he played football and held a PIAA state title for powerlifting. John was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
Also surviving are his daughter, Moira Ruth Phillips, Clarks Summit; a brother, Christopher Phillips, Richmond, Va.; three aunts, Bonnie Bendict, Barbara Tompkins and Naomi Mascaro; two uncles, Mark Phillips and George Seymour; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Tyneil Phillips-Gable; two aunts, Evelyn Kinney and Joann Schimelfenig; and two uncles, Lionel and Richard Seymour.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the Clarks Green Assembly of God Church, 204 S. Abington Road, Clarks Green, with services by the Rev. Glenn White, pastor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
