John H. Jones, of Gravel Pond, formerly of Scranton, died peacefully Monday morning at home with family present.  He was the widower of Judith Asch Jones, who died on September 16, 2019.

Born in Scranton, John was the son of the late Dr. C. Henry and Mary R. Jones.  Prior to his retirement, he was an electrician for IBEW Local 81 for nearly forty years. He was proud of his work as a trainman on the Erie Lackawanna Railroad.  He was a 1968 graduate of Central High School, where he was on the swim team, and attended Keystone Junior College.  John had an encyclopedic knowledge of the world of sports, and he dutifully followed his beloved Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, Sixers, Penn State football and Syracuse basketball.  John was a history buff and avid reader.  He was a kind and gentle man, the type of person that everyone enjoyed to sit and talk to. John enjoyed skiing and bowling for many years, and he built his dream house at Gravel Pond where he immensely enjoyed the natural beauty and wildlife. He was a wonderful loving husband, father, and grandfather. John was a lifelong member of United Baptist Church of Scranton.

Surviving are two daughters, Tara B. Jones and her fiancé Steve Kane, Long Beach, CA, and Dallas W. Jones and her husband, Peter Karel, Larkspur, CA; two grandsons, Hudson Wilder Karel and Rowan Banks Karel; two sisters, Helen Jones and Ann Weigle, both of Washington State, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Home Instead for their care and compassion over the last few months.

A private funeral will be held with interment in the Abington Hills Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lackawanna River Conservation Association.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
