John J. Garrison, Sr., 78, of Tunkhannock passed away Sunday, July 26, 2026, surrounded by his family, at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret (Voorhees) Garrison.

Born on October 28, 1947, in Camden, NJ, he is the son of the late Joseph and Ruth (Mengle) Garrison.

He was a 1965 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. John honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Cold War while stationed in Germany. After returning home, he dedicated 40 years of hard work to Pope and Talbot before retiring.

John found joy in the simple blessings of life. He was a talented artist who loved painting and drawing. He also cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, whether cheering them on from the sidelines at their sporting events or simply enjoying time together. He often said one of God's greatest blessings in his life was seeing each of his grandchildren come to know and love the Lord.

His faith was the foundation of his life. A faithful member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. John also shared his love of music by singing in worship at both Mill City and Pleasant View Baptist Church. He faithfully read his Bible throughout his life and sought to be a light for Christ in all that he did.

Christmas held a special place in John's heart. He delighted in decorating his home and yard each holiday season, creating displays that brought joy to family, friends, and neighbors. His love for Christmas extended beyond his own home as he also decorated the homes of others and several local churches, generously sharing the beauty and hope of the season with his community.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, John Garrison, Jr. and wife Mona; daughter, Elizabeth Paxton and husband F. Randall sister, Robin Garrison; grandchildren, Kira Johnny, and James Garrison, Lorelai and Forrest Paxton.

He is preceded in death by sister, Sharon Christopher; brother, Joseph Garrison.

Funeral arrangements will be held at the convivence of the family.
