John P. Flannery, 65, of Clarks Summit, died Thursday evening after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He was the husband of the former Linda Ghigiarelli. The couple had been married for 37 years.

Born in Newark NJ, he was the son of the late Curtis and Mary Pohorilak Flannery. He was a graduate of Essex County Catholic High School, Newark NJ, and received his bachelor's degree in engineering from Newark College of Engineering. John retired From the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, where he had been employed as a civil engineer for over thirty five years. Most recently he was employed by the Baker Construction in Harrisburg.

John was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Old Forge, American Society of Highway Engineers, and the Penn DOT twenty five year club. He was also a member of The Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Green.

He was a loving husband, father, and friend. He loved spending time with his family and friends especially traveling with his wife Linda. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to thank Dr. Martin Hyzinski and staff and the 8 th floor nurses at Regional Hospital of Scranton for their exceptional care, and also neighbors, friends, co-workers, and especially Paul and Betty Ubaldini for their tremendous help and support.

Also surviving are two daughters Erin Seely and her husband Fred, Newtown Sq.; and Bridget Flannery, Binghamton NY; a son Christopher Flannery Roanoke Va., a sister Patricia Flannery, NJ; a nephew Charles George Flannery, Boston, Mass.; two cousins Charles G. Taylor, Boynton Beach, Fl. and Barbara Becker, Succasunna, NJ; and two beloved bichons, Ava and Zsa Zsa.

He was preceded in death by a brother Charles.

A mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday at 10am from The Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Rd. Clarks Green, with services by Rev. John Lapera, Pastor. All those attending are asked to go directly to church, interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

Friends may call Monday from 4-8 pm at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St. Clarks Summit Pa. 18411.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Church of St Gregory.
