John G. Cech, 87, of Clarks Summit, formerly of Bethlehem, died Saturday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He was the husband of the late Margaret M. Moconyi, who died in 1974, and the late Eleanor Spisak, who died in 1989.

Born in Bethlehem, son of the late George S. and Agnes Bednarik Cech, he was a 1945 graduate of Bethlehem Technical High School, and went on to serve in the Navy. Before his retirement, he worked for the Postal Service after 35 years in the Lehigh Valley area.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church, Clarks Summit, and the St. Bernard's RC Beneficial Society. He was an avid sports fan, and loved watching the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles and Notre Dame.

Surviving are two sons, David and wife, Jean, Marietta, Ohio; and attorney Edward Kelleher and his wife, Elizabeth, South Portland, Maine; a daughter, Dr. Rosanne and her husband, Dr. Gregory Borowski, Clarks Summit; eight grandchildren, David M. Cech and his wife, Amanda, Marietta; Sarah Cech and her fiancé, Randy Brown, Garfield Heights, Ohio; Daniel Cech, Oakland, Calif.; Andrew Cech and his wife, Gretchen, Littleton, Colo.; Noah Cech, Marietta; Lynne Schwed and husband, Paul, Sandy, Utah; Dr. Lauren and her husband, Dr. Gabriel Scher, Winston Salem, N.C.; and Genna Borowski, Clarks Summit; a great-grandchild, Geneva Cech; two sisters, Agnes Yokai, Bethlehem; and Eleanor Groenwald and husband, Fred, Bethlehem; a sister-in-law, Shirley Ann Cech, Bethlehem; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Moritz; and a brother, George Cech.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by Monsignor James McGarry. All those attending are asked to go directly to the church. A graveside service will follow at 1 at Holy Savior Cemetery, 2575 Linden St., Bethlehem, followed by a reception at St. Bernard's on Broad Street in Bethlehem.

The family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
