John Brian Callaghan, 56, of Hazelton, died Saturday, March 14, after an illness.
He was the son of the late Dr. John J. Callaghan and Dorothy Putirskas Callahan. Born in Scranton, on November 21, 1958 where he spent his childhood, the family later moved to Nicholson Twp.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Abingtons Church in Dalton. Brian graduated from Lackawanna Trail High School and the University of Scranton where he earned his bachelors and masters' degrees. He was formerly employed as an insurance investigator and later was engaged in the landscaping business.
He is survived by an aunt, Constance Shivock and an uncle Peter Putirskas both of Scranton; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother James who died in 2001.
The funeral was held Friday with a Mass of Christian Burial by Rev. Thomas Petro at Our Lady of the Abingtons Church. Interment took place in Cathedral Cemetery.
