John C. "Bud" Holt of Clarks Summit, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2015 at the VNA Hospice . His wife of 57 years is the former Dolores E. Shaw-Battersby.
Born on September 23, 1929 in Marlton, NJ , he was the son of the late Lucien and Carolyn King Holt.
Bud was a proud Army veteran who served during the Korean Conflict as a Staff Sergeant with the Division of the Big Red One. He was an iron worker for sixty years before retiring at age 81 in 2010. Bud retired from Standard Iron Works, and had previously worked for Delco Steel and Wilkes Barre Wire and Iron. Locally he was proud to have worked on the steel fabrication for the Viewmont Mall and the Steamtown Mall. He served as the Fire Chief with the Bellmawr Park Volunteer Fire Co. in Bellmawr park, NJ from 1958 to 1971. He also served as a Deputy Sheriff in Lackawanna County.
Bud's hobbies included wood crafting, shadow art, intarsia and ceramics. He was a staunch fan of the Philadelphia Flyers, Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles, Nascar, stock car racing, and an avid reader of western novels. He greatly enjoyed a lifetime of fishing, especially in Canada.
Bud is survived by his four children, Debra Plantholt, and her husband Bill, John Holt and his wife Rose, Tammy Van Fleet an her husband Brian, and Wendy Babushko and her husband Carl Jr.; seven grandchildren , Jessica Harvey and her husband Dave, Olivia Plantholt, Andrew Holt, Katie Holt, Sam Babushko, Nick and Nathan Van Fleet; a niece Karen Tovey ; a cousin, Georgeanna Earls; a brother in law, Jim and his wife Tish; many other nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by a loving daughter, Kelly Marie Holt on February 10, 2008; a brother, Frank Holt.
The family would like to express very special thanks to Dr. Sean McCall, Dr. Chris Peters of NROC, and Dr. Martin Hyzinski, as well as all their compassionate staff.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 am from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Interment will follow in Clarks Green Cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
