Listen to Obituary
JoAnn P. Elechko, 59, of Factoryville died Saturday morning after a 31-year battle with MS. She was a beloved member of a very large extended family and will be greatly missed.
JoAnn was born March 6, 1961 in Scranton to Mary Regina (Boland) and Melvin V. Elechko. She graduated from Abington Heights High School, attended Misericordia University, and graduated
from Keystone College. JoAnn worked for Dr. John Doherty in Scranton until she retired.
JoAnn will be remembered as a woman who smiled and laughed through the challenges that life threw at her. She was funny, sassy, and sweet, and went out of her way to be kind to others. JoAnn loved animals, especially her dogs. She will be sorely missed by Scooby, her chihuahua-mix companion.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents and infant sister, Patricia.
JoAnn is survived by her brother Matthew and his wife Kathie Elechko of Harding; stepmother Terry Elechko of Dalton; stepbrothers Scott Carpenter of Harwich, MA and Jay Carpenter and
his wife Sukie of Malvern, PA; stepsister Kelly Martin and her husband Andrew of Dalton; nieces and nephews: Lili and Maggie Martin, Brady, Shane, Rory, and Darby Carpenter.
The family would like to thank the nurses who visited JoAnn for their dedicated service and the aides from Caregivers of America who compassionately cared for JoAnn and became her friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Rd, S. Abington Twp, PA 18411.
