Joan Surman, 83, of Centermoreland, formerly of Woodbury NJ, died Friday morning at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore. She was the wife of the late Frank D. Surman who died on December 10th, 2013. Born in Camden NJ, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Jennie Chiemento Harris. She was a graduate of Camden High School. She married Frank in 1954 and moved to Woodbury NJ, where they resided until 1973 and then moved to Sweet Valley Pa. The couple then moved to Centermorland Pa. Joan devoted her life to caring and raising her family. She attended Parker Hill Church in Dickson City. Joan loved to refer to herself as a farmer. She enjoyed raising animals especially her chickens and growing flowers, herbs, and vegetables in her garden. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, crocheting, crafting, and reading. But her main love in life was spending time with her family. Surviving are two daughters Joni Steers and her husband Robert, West Deptford NJ, and Laura Stivala and her husband Wayne M. Sr., Dunmore; A brother Wilbert Harris and his wife Dottie, West Deptford NJ; six grandchildren Daniel and Gregory Steers, Maria T., Eric B., Giovanni, and Wayne M. Stivala Jr.; and a great grandson Leonidas Stivala. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3pm from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St. Clarks Summit Pa. 18411. With services by Errol Morgan pastor at Parker Hill Church, Dickson City. The family will receive friends Sunday 1pm until time of service at the funeral home.
