Joan Marion Schmidt Keiper, 81, South Abington Twp., passed away at Abington Manor on Sunday, October 26, 2014.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of Madeline Hawk and John Schmidt. Shortly after graduation from Scranton Technical High School, she moved to Milford, Conn. for nine years and returned in 1964. She was employed by the Chamberlain Corporation and Haddon Craftsmen.
Joan is survived by four children, Donna Keiper, Houston Texas; Thomas and his wife, Crystal, Scranton; Darla Dunn, Clearwater, Fla.; and Timothy Keiper and his wife, Katrina, Clarks Summit; sisters, Nancy Prall, Scranton; Romayne Fritsch, Lake Winola; and Jean Baker, Clearwater, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Whitney, Carlee, Ashley, Evan, Lawson, Leighna, Jackson and Shelby; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Colby and Joshlynn.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John Schmidt; and a granddaughter, Kendall Madeline Keiper.
Joan loved being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and also an aunt to all her nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Joan was loved by all who knew her and had a heart of gold. She loved cooking for her family, classic television shows, crosswords, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Joan was an angel on earth but now she is an angel with wings in heaven; she will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
A funeral service and interment will be private by the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
