Jeff Eckert, 57, died suddenly at our home on Sunday, October 11, 2026.
He was the son of the late Kathie (Taylor) and Bernard Eckert, and the loving husband of 32 years to Paula. In addition to Paula, Jeff is survived by his three children who he adored: Rachel, Anthony, and Hannah.
He is also survived by a brother Jim (Kara) Eckert, mother in law Ronnie Schoenwetter, brother in law Dr. David (Martine) Schoenwetter, nieces Maddie, Emma, Sophia, Mila, Emma and a nephew Brady.
His last day of life was the epitome of the "Life is Good" shirts he always wore. On Saturday, October 10, the weather was a perfect fall day. He did a 21 mile mountain bike ride at Moon Lake ("Great Ride!" was his quote, and thank you Strava for letting me know this!) He went to dinner with us, which was unusual. At the end of dinner, he specifically walked back to give my mom a hug and a thank you. We watched the (pathetic) Penn State game together. He tucked me in, like he has every night since college.
In the morning, when it was pouring rain, I gave him a kiss on the top of his bike helmet striped head, and told him I loved him as we left for yoga. He replied, "Love you too." When we returned, he was gone. In the tears of these times, this last day is such a blessing. I will be forever grateful that Rachel was with me when I found him, and forever grateful to the Tunkhannock Ambulance that was there in less than 10 minutes. The familiar faces from the ambulance (Tierrah McSpadden) and coroner's office (Bill Jones and Gene Dziak) made a difficult situation less difficult. The fact that our entire family was at our house in no time, plus the circle of love and support we have been shown in this tragic time has been a blessing.
Thank you for keeping us in your prayers.
